The initiative for founding the church came from South Africa. The first Presb congregation was formed at Bulawayo in 1896, and in 1903 another at Harare. Others soon followed. Several educational institutions such as David Livingstone Secondary School, Gloag Ranch, and Mondoro Secondary School were started. In due course the two presbyteries of Matabeleland and Mashonaland were constituted. Today the Presb in Zimbabwe are part of the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa (cf. South Africa no. 8) and form one of its 12 presbyteries (Presbytery of Zimbabwe). The General Assembly Office is located in Johannesburg.
