 The Bible Presb were first part of the movement that formed the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in 1936. However, leaning in a more fundamentalist direction, the Bible Presb formed a new body in 1938. Carl McIntire led a faction out of this church in 1956 to form the Collingswood Synod. After the other Bible Presb joined the Re-formed Presbyterian Evangelical Synod in 1965, this group dropped the name Collingswood Synod. Then, in 1984 McIntire again led a group out of the Bible Presbyterian Church. Those remaining claimed the title “General Synod,” while the McIntire group took up the designation “Collingswood Synod” once more. The Bible Presb were influential in the formation of the American Council of Christian Churches in 1941, in opposition to the National Council of Churches. Under the leadership of Carl McIntire, they also started the International Council of Christian Churches. The agencies of the church operate independently. It trains its leaders at Western Reformed Seminary in Tacoma, Washington.
