 The NACCC was founded in 1955 by some Congreg Christian Churches that elected not to participate in the merger that created the United Church of Christ. Its member churches are autonomous; the NACCC meets annually, but its regional bodies have no authority over member churches. The NACCC provides four periodicals for its membership,The Congregationalist being the general bimonthly. It has no official doctrinal stance and no national or international ecumenical affiliations. The NACCC reports that its own restructuring is the major challenge facing the association.
