Emmanuel College exists
1) to offer preparation for ordered and other ministries in the United Church of Canada
2) to provide a biblically founded, contextual and academically responsible theological education
3) to give theological leadership through research and publication
4) to participate in the human search for truth.
Emmanuel College has historic roots in Knox College (founded 1843) and the Faculty of Theology of Victoria University (established 1871). Emmanuel was a founding member of the Association of Theological Schools of Canada and the United States, and is a member of the Toronto School of Theology, an ecumenical consortium of seven schools and four affiliates centred on the campus of the University of Toronto.

The school also offers trainig for chaplains and lay leaders.
