In 1835 the Prussian state issued a church order for both the Rhineland (cf. no. 15) and Westphalia through which Luth and Ref congr were united into one church. The Church of Westphalia is a united church within which both Luth and Ref confessions continue to exist side by side. The majority of congr in the industrial area of the Ruhrgebiet recognize both confessional traditions and consider themselves as united(uniert).The church maintains the Ref tradition in its structure.
