Mission work in the Kwango area was initiated in 1924 by a mission agency called Unevangelized Tribe Mission (UTM). This resulted in the foundation of mission stations in Wamba-Luadi (1939), Matamba-Solo (1941), and Kasongo-Lunda (1945); (1945); the headquarters of the church are in Kasongo-Lunda, where the king of the Bajaka is also residing. At the end of the 1940s another mission agency, the Baptist Mid Mission, started activities in the Kwango area. As tensions arose, the UTM decided to leave the country. Since 1952 missionaries from Switzerland and Germany have been active in the area. In 1958 the church was officially recognized by the state authorities, and in 1960 the Deaconess HouseLändliin Switzerland accepted responsibility for the mission station in Wamba-Luadi. Both educational work and health services expanded. During the turbulence subsequent to independence the church went through difficult times. Missionaries resumed work in 1968. In 1970 the church gained independence. The church belongs to the Eglise du Christ au Congo.
