Missionaries from the Christian Reformed Church in North America had been working several years within the country before this church was founded in 1978. During El Salvador’s unrest this church suffered a split. Both the Reformed Church of El Salvador (no. 2) and a newly formed Christian and Reformed Church (no. 3) broke away from it. It has diminished to a small size but remains quite active.

The church founded the Instituto Biblico Reformado to train elders and deacons.
