 The Union of Free Evangelical Churches in France was founded on September 1, 1849. Most of the churches joining the new organization were previously independent churches which grew out of the revival that spread over France between 1820 and 1830. A few were Ref churches which had left the Protestant State Church several months before because of spiritual and doctrinal “confusion.” In 1939 a split occurred, and a number of congr joined the Reformed Church of France.
