Evangelical Waldensian Church of Argentina
Mariscal Antonio Sucre
2855-2 Buenos Aires
Argentina (South America)
Address-No.: 1219 / 2004
The first Waldensian immigrants reached Argentina in 1860 and settled in the province of Santa Fé. This led to the foundation of other colonies, including Colonia Belgrano, where the first church was erected. Beginning in the 1970s the migration extended to the north of Argentina; both in the Pampa and the region of Chaco new colonies and churches were founded. These congr were rural. The foundation of churches in cities of Argentina and Uruguay occurred much later. Without losing its spiritual and cultural roots the church adopted Spanish as its current language. In Argentina the Church has 10 congr and 2,760 members of whom 927 are communicant members. Three presby of the church are in Argentina. The centre of the Church is in Uruguay. See under Uruguay for statistics.
