The Christian Reformed Church has its roots in a group of 26 members from the Evangelical and Reformed Church who moved in 1962 from San Pedro Sula to the capital city of Tegucigalpa. After various attempts to start another Evangelical and Reformed Church they requested the help of the Christian Reformed Church in the United States (cf. United States). The first two CRCNA missionaries were sent in 1972. Work has developed in four areas —first in the central area with eight congr today, then in the south with nine and in Olancho with 22 churches, and most recently in the north with two churches. In 1990 a national synod was formed. A theological seminary, four theological centers, and a polytechnical school were opened.
