The church grew out of work initiated by a woman missionary — Mary Jones — in the mid 1960s among the aborigines in the Brookton area about 130 km south-east of Perth. In 1967 the World Presbyterian Missions, related to the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Evangelical Synod, in the US (cf. United States), took responsibility for the mission. Several centers were formed (in Perth, Brisbane, Penrith, Canberra).
