This church has its roots in the Greater Sylhet District in the northeast of Bangladesh. Its members belong mostly to the ethnic minority population — Khasi, Garo, and Santal. One presby is completely composed of Khasi communities, an-other of Santal communities. The church was founded by Welsh missionaries; the missionary effort is the fruit of the Welsh revival in 1905. With the partition of India the church was cut off from its larger constituency in North East India. SPS is running a primary school program, an adult literacy program, and some boarding schools. It maintains Sunday schools, youth work, and a women’s program.
