The Korean Presbyterian Church was founded on August 21, l969, by Korean immigrants belonging to the Presbyterian Church Hapdong (cf. Korea no. 15). The first missionary was Pastor Sung Man Kim, who stayed in Brazil until 1983. He was succeeded by Pastor Sung Chuel Kang, who came to Brazil in September 1983, and has served ever since as the pastor of the first church of the denomination, the Han-In church in Sao Paulo. Today the church has 7 organized congr and 8 preaching stations; it has started missionary work among Brazilians. Among its evangelistic and social activities, the church holds the socalled “Beggar’s Service” with an attendance of over 700 persons, who receive a modest meal and hear the Gospel preached, all under the leadership of evangelists and the assistance of the church youth. In the perspective of evangelism the church maintains, under the responsibility of missionaries with special training in the field of health, a center of medical and dental care; it is also developing a program for the rehabilitation of alcoholics and drug addicts.
