This church represents the most radical approach to the issue of shrine worship. After liberation in 1945 the Reconstruction movement took three different forms: a) Reconstruction within the established church (Pastor Ko Hung-Bong); b) Reconstruction through an act of repentance of all pastors who had worshiped the shrine (Pastors Lee Ki-Sun, Han Sang-Dong; cf. no. 1); c) Forming a new “reconstructed” church outside the established church (Choi Duk-Ji, Kim Rin-Hee).The movement adopting the third line was started simultaneously in the North and the South. In the North the Central Committee of the Reconstructed Church was founded with Pastor Kang Sang-Eun as moderator and Mrs. Choi Duk-Ji as vice-moderator (1948). Pastor Han Sang-Dong (see KoShin [no. 1]) in the South proposed that the movement should unite, but Mrs. Choi rejected the proposal. During the Korean war (1950-1953) the movement in the North suffered oppression from the Communists and was also torn apart by the extremist positions held within its fold. They moved to the South and united with another reconstruction group (cf. under SunJang [no. 7]). But the union did not last. In 1954 their GenAssy decided to ordain women to both the ministry of the Word and to eldership. The decision led to dissension. The 1955 GenAssy confirmed the decision and dismissed the opposition through a disciplinary act. In 1959 the church adopted the name JaeGun. In the seventies JaeGun united with some other reconstruction groups (1973-1974).
