The denomination came into existence in 1971 (see HwanWon [no. 19]). Founded by Pastor Jun Seong-Soo in close cooperation with Pastor Ma Du-Won, the representative of the ICCC in Korea, the church has been the Korean stronghold of the ICCC. The church was therefore in the center of the controversies around the ICCC. In 1974 Carl McIntire, the founder of the ICCC, visited Korea. He took a strong anti-Communist stand and supported the dictatorship of President Park Jung-Hee.The National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK), which stood for the democratization of the country, denounced McIntire “as an isolated figure, known as tactician of church division.” The KCCC, the Korean counterpart of the ICCC, counterattacked: “The WCC is pro-communist....NCCK is part of the WCC.... To be against the government is non-biblical.”BubTong is conservative in theology and strongly anti-Communist in political orientation.
