In 1977 a group of young ministers who had graduated from HwanWon Seminary under the leadership of Robert S. Rapp (cf. no. 19) held an emergency assembly and started the JangShin denomination (Rev. Bae Soo-Ho, Rev. Im Joo-Ern, Rev. ImYun-Taek, Rev. Jun Yo-Han, and Rev. Sim Sang-Do). The reason was the continuing divergence of opinion between Ma Du-Won, the ICCC representative in Korea, and Rapp, the director of the seminary. JangShin maintained close relations with the seminary but became independent as a church body. Eventually JangShin integrated other church bodies and increased in numbers.
