In 1947 a group of pastors came into conflict with the National Presbyterian Church (no. 1). As a result the Independent Presbyterian Church came into existence. In 1984 a split occurred in the church. The issue at stake was the relationship with the missionaries of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. In 1983 the Synod had decided to discontinue the presence of missionaries. The decision provoked a schism. Two presbyteries maintained relations with the CRCNA; in 1992 the church adopted the name Presbyterian Reformed Church of Mexico. Thecenter of its activities is Mexico City, but, with the help of US missionaries, work has expanded to several other states. Linked to this church are the Theological Seminary, Juan Calvino, in Mexico City and three Bible institutes in Mexico City, Yucatan, and Tabasco.
