The CRCM was founded by Pastor Chan Thleng, who was a former ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar (cf. no. 4). He belongs to a Matu tribe in Southern Chin State. Born in 1954, he became a Christian in 1974 and after some years of study began, with the help of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, to evangelize the mountain people. In 1985 he founded the United Christian Church. When he returned in 1992, after a few years of studies at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, USA, he changed the name of the church to Christian Reformed Church of Myanmar. In 1991 he completed the translation of the NT into the Matu dialect.
