This church was founded in 1995 by Dr. Tial Hlei Thanga, a former school teacher. He belongs to a Hualngo (Mizo) tribe from northern Chin State. He studied from 1987 to 1994 at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. He was ordained in 1996 by Mission to the World (Presbyterian Church of America gave him initial support). The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Myanmar is self-supporting, active in discipleship ministry and church planting. Members come primarily from the Church Missionary Alliance and the Upper Myanmar Meth Church.
