Uniting Reformed Church of Southern Africa
P.O. Box 20764
Namibia (Africa)
Address-No.: 13241 / 1116

The church was established through missionary work of the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa (cf. no. 1). The first synod was constituted in 1975 with only three congregations. The church grew in subsequent years. In 1987 it was divided into three independent regional synods which were held together by an umbrella body called the General Meeting of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Africa (ERCA). Four years later the three churches decided to merge again as a General Synod with the three churches functioning as regional synods (ERCA Kavango, Central, and Ovambo Regional Synods). In 1995 the Reformed Church in Caprivi, which had also originated from DRC missionary efforts, joined the ERCA and became the fourth Regional Synod of the Church. In 1995 the General Synod decided in principle to join the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (cf. South Africa no. 4). Union was officially announced in April 1997 at the synod of the Uniting Church in East London, South Africa.
