This church was founded in 1898. Under the leadership of Pastor Pambani Mzimba six black ministers and a strong group of followers constituted the first synod in Alice, Cape Colony. Mzimba had a dispute with the Free Church of Scot landover the use of money. To this day the PCA is a black church concentrated in the eastern Cape and Natal as well as in Malawi. The church is a founding member of the African Independent Churches Association.
