This union church is the result of the missionary efforts of Rev. Arthur Stephen Paynter, who came to Sri Lanka early in this century. It was founded in 1906. The church functions as an interdenominational church. At present the ministers are supplied by the Meth Church in Sri Lanka. Most members are Meth, but there are also Angl, Presb, etc. The church caters to visitors who are holidaying in N’Eliya and to the Paynter Home inmates. Though the Meth Church provides the ministers, the church has its own council to decide concerning church affairs.
