The congr belonging today to the Kolhapur Church Council (KCC) is the fruit of missionary work by American Presb which started in 1852. In 1924 the Kolhapur Presb became part of the United Church of Northern India, which brought together Presb and Congreg; they formed the Kolhapur Church Council within the United Church of Northern India. Though the United Church joined the Church of North India (CNI) in 1970, the KCC claims that it continued to exist as a juridical entity. A dispute between the Presbyterian Church USA and KCC over properties was finally settled in 1997 by mutual agreement. The KCC does evangelistic work in Western Maharashtra and is represented in the political districts of Kolhapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri, Sindhurga, and Belguam (Karnatak).

The KCC runs a Theological college at Kolhapur and conducts G.Th. Courses. They send students for further training (e.g. M.Div., B.D., B.th. etc.) to Union Biblical Seminary, Pune and Asian Institute of Theology, Bengalore.
The Kolhapur Church Council runs 7 High Schools, 4 Primary Schools, and 10 Kindergartens in the Disctricts of Kolhapur, Sangli, Sindhudurga, and Belgaum. It also runs 3 Girls Hostels and 1 Boy Hostel for poor, needy and orphen children. The KCC also gives scholarships to poor and needy students to take vacational training. It also runs 2 hospitals. Recently the KCC has launched a Micro-Eco-Loan Project for the welfare of poor and needy families in the KCC area. So far they have distributed Rs. 15 lacs to the 184 beneficiaries to start their own business.
