This church resulted from a split within KoShin in 1957 (cf. no. 1). Kim Suk-Chan, pastor of MunChang Church in Masan, wanted to join HapDong (no. 15) together with his congr. Song Sang-Suk, who had succeeded him as pastor, respected his personal decision but questioned his right to involve the congr as a whole. He decided to bring him to court. KoShin people were divided on the issue. Some felt that the church should not go to court if fellowship with a congr was at stake. The GenAssy leaders were hesitant. Dissatisfied with their lack of clarity, one of the presby (KyungKi) suspended relations with the GenAssy. The opposition to the GenAssy was divided into three groups (Kim Chang-In, Jang Yur-Jae, and Lee Byung-Gyu). Nevertheless they agreed to organize a council (1960), to open a high school (1967), to found the Covenant Seminary (1969), and to start a new denomination (1975). In 1980 the name KeyShin was adopted. Eventually Kim Chang-In joined HapDong (no. 15) and Jang Yur-Jae joined GaeHyuk (no. 23). Lee Byung-Gyu became the leading figure of this denomination.
