Ebonyi State, Nigeria

Address-No.: 1434 / 1157
The Izi tribes, comprising a population of about half a million, live in the area north of Abakaliki in Anambra State. Though there are distinct subtribes they share a common language. The RCath Church and the Assemblies of God were the first Christian communities in the area. The Reformed presence is due to missionary efforts of the Netherlands Reformed Congregations (cf. Netherlands no. 6) operating under the Sudan United Mission (SUM). Work started in 1970. The first baptisms were celebrated in 1977. In April 1988 the missionary congregations were constituted as an independent church.
