In 1956 representatives of the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM), the Sudan United Mission (SUM; cf. no. 9), and the Church of the Brethren (cf. no. 8) agreed to build a church for the armed forces in Kaduna. The membership of this new community increased quickly. But a controversy arose between SIM and SUM over doctrinal issues, especially infant baptism, with the result that the SUM members of the Kaduna congr in 1962 decided to form a separate church. Under the leadership of Pastor Habila Aleiyedeno the church grew quickly in the area of Kaduna and more generally in the Hausa-speaking North.
