The EPCEW is the child of the Presbyterian Association in England (PAE). The PAE was formed in 1987 as a temporary organization with the expressed intention of forming a new Presb denomination in England. “It was the desire of those who formed the PAE to see a church in England that was biblically based, faithful to the Westminster Confession and connectional,” states this church. Membership in the association was open to individuals and groups (churches). The five churches that joined the association worked as an “interim presbytery” until they completed a book of church order. Then they formed a full functioning presbytery in April 1996. The church intends to be not only evangelical in its theological stance but also evangelistic in its practice. It has therefore adopted an aggressive attitude to the planting of new churches. Aware of its small size as a denomination, it has entered into partnership with older and stronger Presb bodies in other countries to help with these church planting projects.
