Toward the end of the 19th century the Free Church of Scotland initiated missionary work in Seoni at Lakhnadon and Chhapara villages. Two congr were established. In 1976 the church spread to Jabalpur; two more congr came into existence. When the Central India State government prohibited the entry of foreign missionaries, the Foreign Missions Board of the Free Church of Scotland helped national leaders to set up the Free Church of Central India Presbytery (FCCI). The last missionaries left in 1988.
