Since 1933, members of the Congregational Church in South Africa have moved to Namibia to find work and places to settle. They came mainly from Keimoes and Upington in the northwestern Cape. Seven congregations were eventually established: Duineveld, Rehoboth, Karlfeld, Windhoek (1959), Luderitz (1966), Walvis Bay (1966), Swakopmund (1976), and Grootfontein (1975). In 1982, the seven congregations became an independent regional council.
