Christian Reformed Church in the Dominican Republic
Apartado 747-2
Santo Domingo
Dominican Republic (North America)
Address-No.: 12167 / 3326
In the 1970s Christian Reformed missionaries from Puerto Rico visited the country, following up on radio program contacts. The first American missionaries, Ray and Gladys Brinks and Neal and Sandy Hegeman, began work among the Haitian immigrants working in the cane fields and marginal areas of urban centers in 1981. People of Haitian origin, speaking French Creole, continue to make up 90% of the church membership. During the 1980s several Spanish-speaking groups were formed among national Dominicans. These were organized in 1990 into a separate branch of the church.
