The first Presb congr was Christ Church of Warwick, established in 1719. It remained an independent congr, served by ministers mainly from Scotland but also from Canada and the USA, until 1845, when it affiliated with the Free Church of Scotland. In 1843 services were started in Hamilton by Mr. Morrison, minister of Christ Church, and a new church was opened there for worship in 1846 (cf. no. 2). Christ Church, Warwick became a congr first of the United Free Church of Scotland (1900) and then of the Church of Scotland (1929). Ministers serving the congr remained members of the presby in Scotland to which they previously belonged and came already trained and ordained, generally with experience in a number of parishes.
