The first reformed service was made in 1553 in Vilnius. The first Reformed synod meeting took place in 1557. The church was officially named the "Unitas Lithuaniae" (Lithuanian Unity); from its beginning it has been open to various national groups (Poles, Lithuanian as well as Scottish, German, Czech and French emigrants) and accepted the use of several languages. The Huguenot cross and Soli Deo Gloria are used as popular symbols. During the Soviet occupation theological training was forbidden. Pastors were not replaced. In 1982 the last minister of the church died. A Luth pastor helped out till 1992. The church got deep post-soviet crisis during 1991-2000. 2001 Synod restored Unitas Lithuaniae church order and held unity with WARC. The small group of fundamentalists separated from Unitas Lithuaniae Synod.

The church subscribed to the Confession of Sandomir.
