In 1946 the Dutch Reformed Church (cf. South Africa no.1) began missionary work in Swaziland. The first missionary was Rev. Malan. It took fifteen years to set up the first congregation. It became part of the Dutch Reformed Church in Africa, Presbytery of Piet Retief (cf. South Africa no. 4a). In 1983 the three congregations in Swaziland decided to form a presbytery and, later (1989), the synod of Swaziland, which continued to be part of the DRCA. In 1991 the Synod of the DRCA decided to sever itself from the Synod of Swaziland, and the Swaziland Reformed Church was formed.
