The CCAP Harare Synod was founded in 1965. The church consists mainly of migrant workers from Malawi in search of employment in towns, mining areas, and farms in Zimbabwe. Since they could not speak the local language, worship had to be conducted in Chewa. The first community was formed in 1912. Ministers came from Malawi or were missionaries from South Africa. Today the church conducts services in English, Shona, Chewa, and, to a lesser extent, Ndebele. In recent times candidates for the ministry have been sent from Zimbabwe to Malawi for theological training. The church is part of the CCAP; it is one of the five synods of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian in Malawi and Zambia (cf. Malawi no. 1).
