In 1947 the Gereja Masehi Injili di Timor (GMIT cf. no. 28) became independent. However, Dutch ministers still occupied some of the leading positions in the church. Some members of GMIT disliked the continuing Dutch presence, and in 1950 they separated and formed the Gereja Masehi Musyafir, which was recognized by the Indonesian government in 1951. Contacts with an orthodox Calvinist mission working on the island of Sumba (cf. GGRI no. 38) led the GMM to find its identity in Calvinism (synod of 1985) and change its name into Gereja-Gereja Masehi Musyafir (1992). The GGMM has no schools or medical facilities and no church magazine. The church considers December 17, 1950, as its date of birth.
