This group came into existence after the fall of the Soviet regime and the changes which followed. The initiative came from Evgenyi D. Kashirski and Vladimir M. Lotsmanov in Tver and Moscow. In 1991 congregations were established in these two cities, and one year later the Union of Evangelical Reformed Churches was formed. The aim of the movement was and is to introduce Calvinist thinking into Russia. It places strong emphasis on communicating pure Reformation thinking. The church has begun to publish in Russian a series of pamphlets on Calvinist teaching and translations of Calvinist literature.
