4. Africa Evangelical Presbyterian Church (AEPC) (1076) The AEPC was registered in 1962. Its roots go back to the work started in 1946 by missionaries of the IBPFM at the invitation of the Africa Inland Mission. Mr. and Mrs. Saunders Campbell were active since the early days when the mission began in Mwingi (North Kitui). In 1956 the crisis within the IBPFM in the US affected also church life in Kenya. The Campbells created, with some pastors who went with them, a new mission station in Muruu. This was the beginning of what became the AEPC. In 1973 the church embarked on a “church planting vision.” Rev. Campbell was sent to Nairobi, where he founded a congregation, the Community Presbyterian Church. New efforts in 1986 to go “Beyond Mwingi” saw the creation of congr in Nairobi, Limuru, Nakuru, and Meru. In 1990 three Kenyan mis-sionaries were sent to Meru, Mombasa, and Embu.
